In a rare empty hour, Mr. Muscle and I recently watched a western on Netflix.  Amidst a horse chase, the sky darkened and rain erupted from the heavens.  The riders were winding through a narrow canyon.  The canyon itself was carved from the erosion of flash floods.  The director let the audience watch the wall of water roll through the small canyon, gaining speed as it soon enveloped our main characters.
When caught up in flood waters, you are at their mercy.
Our late spring/early summer has been a deluge.  We’ve just been riding one wave after another.  That’s why you haven’t heard from me lately.  We have been taking care of hurting people and tending to our own small blip.  We’ve been entertaining and showing hospitality.  I’ve been trying to stay current on my Christian Counseling homework.  The ol’ emotional energy has waned.
Since Mr. Muscle travels through the week for business it becomes very tricky to maintain connection when the weekends are brimming.  Emotional connection demands time alone to chat and catch up without an audience.  This time has suffered.
I’ve found great comfort in finding him under the covers at night.  Not to get frisky, but just to feel his warmth and know he’s there.  I’ll reach over with my foot and find his (which for some reason reminds me of Ruth putting in motion the lineage of David through Boaz’s feet….).  Until this season completes and we are able to have better connection time, this type of affection helps me.
Please don’t think this season is only full of dangerous flood waters.  Some of our rain has been nourishing, too!  We’ve had exciting developments for one of our son’s.  I’ll share more when I’ve been given the okay to go public…..
More will be coming…..I’ve just got to tread water for a little while longer.
