Is Valentine’s Day “a thing” in your marriage?

People are all over the board on this. Some couples feel that V-Day makes love too commercial, pointing out they show love to each other every day. Some couples are on a tight budget and can’t afford a babysitter plus dinner out. Some couples don’t really care one way or the other. And last, some embrace it! And all of this is OK.  Couples who embrace it aren’t “sell outs,” just as couples who choose not to aren’t heartless.

But, let me ask. How have you added a spark to your marriage lately? Because, chances are one of you enjoys romance. And let me tell you ladies, it’s not always the wife. I know one hubby who knows all the important dates of their relationship, including the date they met, and the wife often forgets.

It’s OK for the spouse who likes romance to want some romance every once in awhile. So, if you don’t really understand romance, but have a spouse who likes a little surprise, likes to see you dressed up a little, likes to hear sweet words, likes to be treated like a queen/king for a few moments, make the effort!

Only one person is supposed to fill your romance need!  That’s your spouse.  And, I’m not necessarily talking about sex here.

That’s part of the give and take of marriage. You do what he likes sometimes and he does what you like sometimes. For example, Dave watches English-Victorian-Era themed movies with me and I watch Purdue Basketball with him. Granted, sometimes we are looking at our phones, but hey, we are there and making the effort. (And, if either of us asks the other to put the phone down, we do.)

So, with all that being said, if one of you likes romance, why not take advantage of all that Valentine’s Day has to offer those romantics?  Not only in the shops, but around the blog and podcast world, too.
